London, England – small guide for Malaysians
nota kepala:
sebelum mula, ingin dinyatakan bahawa pos ini ialah pos bahasa Inggeris sebab bajet-bajet jewwwww nak tulis travel guide (poyo habis) dan travel log (tapi sikit punya malas nak edit video hewhew) so please tahan sikit dengan saya punya broken english hoccay.
hello.
I just came back from London two days ago, after almost a week of vacation in London and Iceland (because there is no direct flight from Dublin to Keflavik, so I need to go to London first. so, yeah, why shouldn’t I spend some days in London, right?) I spent about three days and a half in London. My friend from Malaysia asked me to write a post about my journey so here it is!
firstly, I would like to write about flight tickets. I went to London from Dublin, so my flight tickets were much more cheaper than flying from Malaysia, yeah, obviously. If you are coming to London from Ireland or other parts of Europe, you can travel with RyanAir or EasyJet, low cost carriers. they are similar to Air Asia that we have in Malaysia. the price varies, you can get a ticket as cheap as 20 euros one way, but you have to book your flight early. if I am not mistaken, there are at least four airports in London. from Dublin, I flew to Stansted Airport and then from Luton Airport back to Dublin. If you are coming from Malaysia, I guess there are a number of flights go to KLIA to London so no worries. personally, I would like to recommend Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight direct from KLIA to London Heathrow, with Airbus 380. the tickets may be around RM3,000 for return journeys.
from the airport, you can take shuttle bus to central London. I used Terravision. last time I checked, the price is 15£ fro return journey from the airport to the stop of your choice. you can go to Terravision website for more info on the stops and timetables.
I stayed at Malaysia Hall for two nights. in case you guys are wondering, the rates for rooms are cheaper for Malaysian undergraduate students in UK and Ireland. and the canteen, ahhhhh. roti canai, nasi lemak, kuih ketayap, bubur pulut hitam, you name it! and the prices are way cheaper too. (you see, I went to another Malaysian restaurant in London and the foods are quite expensive. 12£ for a plate of char kuey tiauw (kuetiau) and a pint of iced milo is considered overpriced for me *thumbs down*) I spent in average 5£ for one complete meal at Malaysia Hall canteen, with drink and dessert. Malaysia Hall is located at 34, Queensborough Terrace, and can be easily reached by underground tubes. the nearest stops are Queensway and Bayswater. (you can check the room rates at Education Malaysia website)
if you are about to spend around three days in London, I recommend you to buy attraction tickets online. I bought the four attractions tickets (Madame Tussauds, London DUngeon, London SeaLife and London Eye) and managed to go to each one of them in two days. a bit rushing, but it was okay. my favourite of these four is London Dungeon, but Madame Tussauds was okay too. the other two, well, maybe that’s just not for me. haha. the attraction tickets (4 attractions cost 58.08£ when bought online)
transportation. I traveled mostly by tubes and buses. I have an Oyster Card so there’s no need for me to queue to buy tickets. I spent about 30£ for three days. you can easily find maps anywhere in the city but it is best to get the tube map once you arrive at the airport.
besides, I also managed to go to Chelsea (Fulham Broadway) stadium and also Arsenal – Emirates stadium. the stadium tour costs 18£ each, but I did not have chance to tour around Chelsea stadium as it was undergoing renovation at the moment.
so, I guess that’s all for now. if you have anything to ask, do not hesitate to contact me via twitter @runaziluz (because i am wayyyy too active there compared to other social networks)
so, overall, I spent about 300£ for accommodation, flight tickets, attraction tickets and meals, and also some shopping. I bet you can spend less than that if you want to.

kedua, haritu pergi ke University College Dublin, acah-acah jadi delegasi from Royal College of Surgeons untuk attend UCD punya Malaysian Night. makanan malaysia, i love love love! starter makan roti canai dengan kari. main course ialah nasi putih, dengan honey roasted duck, gulai kambing dan sayur campur. dessert pula pisang goreng dengan ais krim dan chocolate sauce. sedap gila! dan tengok teater P. Ramlee. my ex-collegemate encik Mujahid yang juga anggota band Monalyssa jadi main actor youalls. lepas tu menang lucky draw! rasa retis sekejap bila Julia, anak Ziela Jalil (saje je nak bagitau Julia sama kolej dengan kita hahaks) yang berlakon Ariana Rose tu tanya kita siapa bagi jam tu hihihiks padahal lucky draw je.
balik dari UCD, pergi makan-makan lagi dekat Wok In, makan mi dalam kotak guna chop stick. tempat lunch favourite masa study first year kat RCSI. lepas tu makan cheesecake. sedap gila sampai rasa nak terbang. tapi gambar semua kat henpon malas nak transfer hihihi.
ketiga, dapat anak sedara baru pagi ni. nama dia Damia Arissa. kuat nangis! on on skype je dengar suara dia. lahir-lahir dah ada gigi macam Auntie Yunyun dia ni. tapi dia lagi power sebab ada dua batang. comel. muka macam grandma dia. hihi.

Travel Log Ais-Ais Kacang #14 : A 'Solo' Journey to Northern Ireland
hello guys!
i am just too excited to write about my awesome weekend. i went to Belfast with the boys. YES i was the only girl, with five other boys, taking bus for almost three hours at night from Dublin to Belfast. we arrived at around 11.30p.m. i slept at their girl friends' house. whew.
i can't arrange proper sentences to show how happy i am now. ah. okay okay. cuba cakap satu-satu. haaa.
on Saturday, we went to a castle (i forgot the name!), and then to Carrick-A-Rede and then to the famous Giant Causeway. it was awesome, really! with the breathtaking scenery. but you know, it's quite hard for a petite (lol) girl to walk together with a group of model-height boys. with their long legs, harems penat nak mengejar woi.
ah sudahlah. nah, gambar. haha.

program perubatan berkembar PMC - Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
this post was specially written for you guys - those who are coming to Ireland to further your study in medicine at Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. i would like to write about the preparations before you come. i don't really know about other universities but i'm quite sure it would be pretty much the same thing as i mentioned here.
(persediaan sebelum berlepas ke Ireland dan menyambung pelajaran di RCSI, Dublin)
i'm sorry, my English writing skill is not really good, but I still want to write in English. why? for your information, during your first or second week, you have to sit an English (written) examination and to those who are 'lucky' enough, you will be placed in Language and Communication groups. 100% of the students in LC groups are from Malaysia, so, yeah. you better watch out. haha! but fret not if you are chosen to be in the group as it will bring you much benefit. don't worry.
books? do you need to buy books before coming here? my answer is yes because everything is more expensive here compared to in Malaysia. the one and only book store in Malaysia (as far as I know) that is selling books that have been used by the students here is Kamal Book Store which is situated at Jalan Pahang, near Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. for the first year, the must-have book is Clinical Anatomy by Stanley Monkhouse. Monkhouse was the professor of anatomy in RCSI for years but unfortunately i don't have chance to learn from him in person. other books like Biochemistry etc are not really important (for me) as most of the things that gonna be assessed will be in your lecture notes. If you want to buy books, there is a book store near to the college that sells medical books, gloves, labcoat, stethoscope etc. you need to have a stethoscope in second year.
laptop? here in RCSI, you'll get a free laptop. yes, FREE! malaysians love free stuff, aren't we? i'm not sure what brand of laptop are you getting this year, but last year, everyone got an HP630 laptop. if you get Macbook this year, i'll be jealous until my last breath. so yeah, no need to bring your own laptop, as it will be difficult for you during the airport security checks. (you know you need to present all your electronic devices during the check, right?)
handphones? as long as you have a smartphone, i think everything will be alright. why smartphones? because smartphones have applications like whatsapp, viber etc that will keep you close to your loved ones. :') but note that Three (the service provider that is being used by most of the Malaysians here) does not support Blackberry.
spices? IT IS A MUST! curry powder, tomyam paste, soup powder, empat sekawan, turmeric powder, aji no moto. everything! Ikan bilis and cili kering are at the top of the list. just bring them in your check-in bag from malaysia.
outfits? a pair of long john is enough. and you can bring a coat and buy some more here. Clarks shoes are much cheaper here so buy them here. hihi. The temperature here in winter can go down to negative while in summer, the warmest i have ever experienced was 25 degree celcius.
anything else? you can always contact me and other seniors for assistants. good luck and have a safe flight! (Twitter: @runaziluz)
ps: these are some pictures for you to look at to boost your excitement lol.

Travel Log Ais-Ais Kacang #13 : KL - Amsterdam - Dublin
Hello Dublin. It had been three months. And now I am back. Thank you for welcoming me with a very warm summer.
That's all for now. And I would like to welcome the juniors to Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Do enjoy the last pieces of good time in Malaysia before you come here!
My flight from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam was on 2nd September, and then from Amsterdam to Dublin on the next day after six hours of transit. I was lost at first, but thank God for sending Arif and Syed, I was back on track again. Haha. Nothing to do, so I just lean against the sofa at the airport and read Arsonist Jalan Labrooy by Riduan A.dullah.
When i arrived last Monday, there was a cardboard with my name written on it. 'JULIJA'. Two of my friends waited for me with it at the arrival hall. Like I were a tourist. Haha. And then we took a taxi to my new house. We had our lunch together, then we proceeded to moving out my stuffs from my previous house to the new one. It was tiring but fun, added with Mr. Taxi driver who charged us just €10 (excluding fares) for helping us to move out, not to forget his free tap dance show while carrying my bags. Oh yeah moving out is fun. Sounds lifeless.

Yesterday, we went for a shopping. I could not believe that I carried about 15kg groceries in the shopping bag. It was heavier than my cabin bag! Thank you to my friend for lending us her shopping cart.

Saturday
Travel Log : Ais-Ais Kacang #12 : KLCC I'm In Love
Yesterday was the most memorable day of my life.
We met at half past twelve. We did not have a fixed plan yet. As it was Friday, we rushed ourselves to somewhere you can join Friday prayer, with a good place for me to wait for you. We chose SOGO. I did window shopping while you were praying at Masjid Jamek, one station away from me. Everything went well and smooth at first.
Then we went to one of the scarves shops. I bought thirty scarves and you did not say a thing. I know you already knew that my shopping passion is uncontrollable.
Our main point of going out was actually to buy my books. So we took an LRT to Titiwangsa, thought that it was the easiest way to get to Kamal Bookstore.
Then we walked. But we were lost. And suddenly it was raining cats and dogs. So we stopped under a tree for shelter. You gave me your sweater and asked me to cover my head even I already had my head covered with my scarf. And you were wet all over your body.
The condition worsened when a driver drove his car insanely fast that water from the road splashed on us. We laughed at each other in the rain. Then we both complaint that we had never have an experience as awful as this with anybody else.
We were lucky when a taxi driver offered us a free ride to the nearest LRT station. Only then we realized that we already walk from Titiwangsa to Sentul. We took a train to Titiwangsa and started to walk again - this time to the right direction - to Jalan Pahang. But then we lost again.
Internet was our best companion yesterday.
We took a taxi to The Grand Season Hotel as it was the nearest landmark (besides HKL) from the bookstore. The taxi driver thought we wanted to get a room for Merdeka one-night-stand. I mentally laughed my ass out.
From the hotel, we started to walk to our destination but we did not find the store just yet. Both of us were in great tension that I cried when you suddenly raised your voice. But it was okay. It was all my fault. We were both exhausted physically and mentally.
My luck came again as I had three friends helping me out about the direction via twitter and SMS. At last, we managed to get to the store. The tense slowly eased out.
It was six in the evening and we did not have our lunch yet. It was my first day of period, so my stomach was aching so badly. But I still managed to control the pain. We enjoyed the scenery of Kuala Lumpur together in the rain while walking along Jalan Pahang to Chow Kit, maybe for the last time before I go back to Dublin.
We went back to Serdang and had our 'lunch' at 8 p.m. Then you accompanied me home.
It was a long day. Tiring yet memorable.
Thank you so much
I love you.

Travel Log Ais-Ais Kacang #11 : awesome Kuching is awesome
from 27th June to 3rd July, i had a volunteering project with my college-mates and students from other colleges. most of us are medical students. Relief Mission Sarawak was the name of our project. i was the co-photographer, helping azfar with the photography thingy. it was fun, really.
but i'm not going to write much about the mission (as i already spammed your dashboard with the RMS related posts before this hahahaha) so i gonna write more about our vacation. yeah, vacation!
it was the second time for me, going for a vacation without my family. the first one was in Turkey and now i just came back from Kuching, Sarawak. it was a really fun experience. going out all day and night with favourite peoples and newly found friends, it was awesome awesome. crazily awesome. okay excited lebih.
we had non-stop meals from day one until day three. serius gemuk duduk kuching lama-lama. kami duduk menginap tiga malam "dekat Hilton". dan untuk beberapa hari, keluar jejalan area waterfront, tumpang solat di Riverside Majestic. main hotel lima bintang je semua. hahaa.
one of the places you have to go to when you're visiting Kuching is Kampung Budaya Sarawak, which is about 45 minutes drive from Kuching. thanks to alif farhan sebab sudi menghantar kami. besides that, wajib juga pergi makan seafood kat Topspot. haritu kami makan 13 orang semeja, total dalam average seorang rm20 je. murah kan? makan sampai tembolok penuh.
makan makan makan. shopping shopping shopping. one thing i love about Sarawakian, dia tak mark up prices pun even dia tahu kita orang semenanjung. best lah shopping sana shopping sini. tak perlu sarapan pagi di hotel, pergi je seberang sungai, makan kek lapis. tak payah beli. jimat kan? lepas tu beli terubuk masin. dia bungkus ala-ala beg pergi pejabat.
nak tulis banyak-banyak pun macam tak sedap. no word can explain the excitement weehuu. and handsome people everywhere like seriously (not to sound too bias but i think melanau peoples are handsome hihiks) okay gedik kan. nah tengok gambar jelah.
kesimpulan, marilah bergerombolan melawat Kuching. meow!
but i'm not going to write much about the mission (as i already spammed your dashboard with the RMS related posts before this hahahaha) so i gonna write more about our vacation. yeah, vacation!
it was the second time for me, going for a vacation without my family. the first one was in Turkey and now i just came back from Kuching, Sarawak. it was a really fun experience. going out all day and night with favourite peoples and newly found friends, it was awesome awesome. crazily awesome. okay excited lebih.
we had non-stop meals from day one until day three. serius gemuk duduk kuching lama-lama. kami duduk menginap tiga malam "dekat Hilton". dan untuk beberapa hari, keluar jejalan area waterfront, tumpang solat di Riverside Majestic. main hotel lima bintang je semua. hahaa.

Travel Log Ais-Ais Kacang #10 : Spring Break
it has been a week since our spring break ended. a fortnight of break, it was enough for me to go anywhere else in the world, but i didn't. i stayed in Ireland, doing nothing. okay tipu lah kalau i did nothing for two weeks. tapi itulah. orang lain bercuti ke luar, saya terperap dalam Dublin.
the first week of the break was wasted just like that, i should say. i didn't study much. i didn't go out far. i don't know what i did actually. haha.
saya dah deactivate twitter @cikrunrun tu. kalau nak cari saya, cari lah kat tempat lain. lol macam lah ada orang nak cari saya.
kbye.
ps: counting days. keep calm and love medicine. and listen to Maximum The Hormone. kaki dan badan dah gatal nak moshing. :(
